SUPPORTING AND GUIDING THE FUTURE OF MUSIC

By Mindi Abair

The Recording Academy’s Grammy Museum

I served as an elected official for the Recording Academy on the Board of Governors, as the President of the Los Angeles Chapter, and as a National Trustee for over 10 years. I became involved with The Recording Academy after playing a GRAMMY Week event celebrating women. I realized that the money raised went to the Recording Academy’s charitable arm that gave students resources and opportunities for music education in schools. I jumped at the chance to go speak to the students, play for them, and help inspire them. That led me into a 10+ year journey into serving in so many ways to encourage our organization and lead our efforts to keep and strengthen music in the schools. The GRAMMY Museum is the charitable arm of The Recording Academy that leads those efforts, and it’s very close to my heart. This is the charitable organization that will profit from the proceeds of this wine.

What creates the greatest Pinot Noirs in the world is a climate that is altogether cooled by strong ocean breezes and warmed by the daily sun. This is why Anderson Valley, located in Mendocino County, can be regarded as one of the finest.

A long and meandering valley that opens up to the very cool Pacific Ocean, it's so remote that it does not see many visitors. However, it is home to some of the greatest wineries in California like Goldeneye and Roederer Estate. Pinot Noir and sparkling wine reign supreme here, and some say you can even taste a slight salinity on the grapes from the ocean mist that creeps down the valley every morning. I would say that it is definitely one of my favorite regions for Pinot noir, so we couldn't be more proud that our first non-Cabernet Viva La Musique is from here.

The cool ocean drenched air offers this wine a tremendous elegance and amazing red fruit profile. The depth of the valley and the soil helps retain an earthiness that's not found in many places other than Oregon or Burgundy.

Upon pouring your first glass, immediately you will notice a tremendous garnet color staring back at you. However, it's the aromas that got us the first time. There's spice in the way of pepper, tobacco leaf, dried fruit and a rich dark cherry all layered together so perfectly. The taste is even more engaging as it has an incredible vanilla bean kiss from fine French Oak integrated beautifully with the earthiness, dark cherry and the background of spice.

Luxury Pinot Noirs typically offer incredible complexity, and this wine stands as one of the best we've ever had from California. It is safe to say… we love us some Anderson Valley.

MUSIC

This wine is so beautifully complex... earthy and elegant in the same sip. What would pair with this musically? Only the classics... artists that emote and give you a piece of themselves as they play. I've compiled a playlist full of GRAMMY award winning artists like Sting, Bruce Springsteen, Aerosmith, Dolly Parton, Paul McCartney, Billy Joel and Tony Bennett. Enjoy!
